So I'm back from the Eicma exhibition in Milan full of experiences, but you don't need to hear about all of them.
In the blog we will focus only on the new adventure motorcycles that were launched at the exhibition and presented there for the first time.
Tenere 700 2025
Let's start with the Yamaha booth, which I think was the busiest of all the booths at the show.
The 689 cc, parallel twin engine is unchanged but has been added Yamaha's YCC-T (Chip Controlled Throttle) system, which allows it to offer two selectable riding modes - Sport and Explorer as well as a shorter intake pipe to improve torque delivery. The ABS has been added a traction control system that was sorely missed by those who complained that the Tenere has no safety systems, so both can be disabled at the touch of a button. The ABS system includes three modes and apart from road mode where both wheels are active, the ABS can be turned off in both or in the rear only.
The front shock system has been updated and includes 43mm adjustable inverted forks with 210mm of travel, while the rear shock offers 200mm of travel and features a new ratio for improved off-road performance with more convenient accessibility than before.
What else? The fuel tank has been moved forward to improve weight distribution and handling. The seat has been redesigned for better rider comfort and mobility and is now built in one piece, and the rider's pegs are wider to improve control when riding off-road. Even the fuel cap has been redesigned to make it easier to refuel. Yamaha also heard the complaints about the position of the exhaust, but this problem was partially addressed and instead of improving the position, they simply added reinforcement under the small arm that grabs the boiler and bends every time you fall to the right. We'll see how it holds up.
The screen has undergone a makeover and now we will get a new 6.3-inch color TFT with a smartphone connection that allows riders to conduct conversations, see messages and navigate through Doodle from scratch using the MyRide app.
The front has been updated and received a new design for the front light with four separate LED units. The gearbox has been improved for smoother gear shifting, and the clutch cover has been redesigned so that it interferes less with the rider's foot.
Tenere 700 Rally 2025
The rally version of the Tenere also receives all the design upgrades, to which were added a high front wing, titanium rider legs. The price in the US right now is only $200 more than the price of the 2024 models for the regular Tenere 700 so I really hope that Yamaha keeps the same price range.
KTM 390 Adventure R
One of the highlights of the Eicma exhibition in Milan was the expected launch of the new KTM 390 Adventure R. Leaked images were shared a week before the show and created a huge buzz on social media and as it seems, we have a new potential ruler of the category for a few years to come.
The 2025 model comes with an all-new LC4 engine and although it still comes with a single cylinder engine, the volume has been increased to 399cc, producing 44 horsepower and torque that works better at low revs, especially for off-road riding.
The motorcycle underwent a design makeover and received a design inspired by an aggressive rally motorcycle, with a vertical LED projector headlight and a Dakar-style body design. The wind shield has undergone a serious extension and now it will be more pleasant to ride on the road, along with it the front wing also went up to complete the combat look.
The 390 R is equipped with a fully adjustable WP suspension system with 230mm of travel which is a huge upgrade over the previous model's 170mm. Also in this model, KTM will offer an Xplor Pro shock absorber kit for those who want to upgrade.
It is fitted with spoked wheels with a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel, a further upgrade to the 17 and 19" of its predecessor. The combination of the diameter of the wheels and the stroke of the dampers increases the clearance to 26 cm and the height of the seat to 88.5 cm, KTM notes that there will be different height versions of the 390 to suit shorter riders. Between the wheels you'll find an all-new swing arm that sits on a reinforced off-road chassis and a tiny Akrapovic exhaust hidden under the bike. On the one hand, this is a serious upgrade because it will allow easier connection of bags and less damage in crashes, on the other hand, you need to see that water does not enter the exhaust when water crossing. But we won't know until we try.
Features and technology: the motorcycle includes a 5" color TFT screen with Bluetooth connection and navigation. It also has cruise control as standard to improve comfort on long trips, which is noteworthy for a model of this size.
The 390R has three riding modes - rain, road and off-road, the latter allows you to disconnect the ABS system on the rear wheel. In addition to grip control in the familiar rotation of the oranges.
When will he arrive in Israel? Rumors say around June 2025 and there is no price yet, until then his competitors are already in the market for him because after he arrives, I don't envy them.
